Albergue de S. Tiago de Labruge

Albergue de S. Tiago is the first pilgrim hostel for those who, from Porto, make the Portuguese Coastal Path.

It opened in July 2015 on the premises of the old primary school in the parish of Labruge. The space is located in a central area of the parish, about 1 km away from the Portuguese shore Camino.

In that area, pilgrims have access to a diverse range of services, including pharmacy, post office, restaurants and cafes. Being an eminently agricultural parish, here the pilgrim finds the ideal conditions and tranquility to recoverfrom the effort spent.

Some features:

– 24 beds

– 2 bathrooms with showers

– Kitchen

– living room / leisure rooms

– wi-fi

The hostel aims to boost the region through the promotion of tourism (particularly religious).

So far more than 10,000 pilgrims of 120 different nationalities have passed through the hostel. The main nationalities of tourists are German, Spanish, Italian and North American. Together, they represent 60% of the total.

Please note that this hostel does not have any commercial purposes for the parish council. There are no associated fixed revenues, which take the form of donations.

In practice, any hostel user can use it completely free of charge and there is no costassociated with it. Whoever you want, be it a user / pilgrim or anyone else, makes donations to the hostel in order to support the maintenance of the hostel, this money being fully invested in the hostel (maintenance) and in the local economy, namely for the recovery of spaces, holding events, promoting the place, etc.

More recently, a significant investment has been made that has allowed the occupancy capacity to be expanded from 16 beds to the current 24 beds.

Inherent in this dynamism of religious tourism in the region and the respective arrival of thousands of tourists, the growth of the local economy becomes visible.

Camino de Santiago

The Camino de Santiago is a route that dates back thousands of years. This has been carried out by millions of pilgrims since the beginning of the 9th century, when the tomb of the Apostle Santiago the Great was discovered.

Since then, thousands of people of the most diverse ages and countries have traveled the paths that lead to the Cathedral. Here, after the culmination of a long effort of faith, they can venerate the relics of the Holy Apostle.

In Labruge we are aware of this phenomenon and, in order to help, we leave here some useful links. You can consult all the relevant information to follow the path. Good luck and good pilgrimage!
